Hello, I am Dolores.
I love learning new things and weaving is something I stumbled upon in 2013.
While watching the Harrisburg Farm Show on TV I was intrigued by something called "Sheep to Shawl". This is a contest where a team of people shear a sheep, card or comb the wool, spin the yarn and weave a shawl.
Looking at the loom I assumed it was a very expensive craft that I could not afford. I was curious what it would cost so I searched eBay and Craigslist for a used loom. Surprisingly, there was a loom for sale within 20 minutes of my home and the cost was $500. I spoke to my husband about it and he said get it.
Over the weekend I watched YouTube videos to see if this was something I really wanted and to get an idea of what the loom should have. Monday morning I called about the loom and that evening it was in my house!
Since then I have been weaving, designing fabric and continually learning about weaving. What I enjoy most about weaving is that it is endlessly challenging. There are so many different structures and drafts, not to mention various kinds of looms, fibers and colors to play with.
After 5 years, I am still excited about weaving and sharing what I know. I hope some of the things I have learned will help you as well.
My Life:
I live in Pennsylvania and owned a plant nursery business for many years. My husband and I sold the business several years ago and I now enjoy my new life of weaving.
I have a little helper, a one year old Yorkie, who keeps me on my toes. I enjoy gardening, traveling, spinning and weaving in addition to other arts.
