Weaving Software: iWeaveit

iWeaveit and Weaveit

iWeaveit is an App for iPhone/iPad and Android devices.  It is a very good App for weaving design and project planning.

iWeaveit was created by Sally Breckenridge of Canyon Art.  I have emailed Sally and she responds quickly to answer my questions.  It is an easy program to learn, but don't let that fool you, it is a powerful program.  Actually, there are several programs.  iWeaveit for Apple and Android devices, Weaveit Pro for Mac and Windows.

I started with the iWeaveit App on my iPad to design drafts and projects.  It is only $20 for the basic App plus a few add ons for special features (which you will want and need shortly after getting the App)  It can be purchased in the Apple App Store.

Start by putting in your favorite draft and then the fun begins!  Change the warp and weft colors,  move the warp threading around, see what happens with different treadling.  It allows you to see what can be done with a draft before putting it on your loom.  Best of all, you have it with you all the time. Whenever you have an idea or time to work on your drafts they are at your fingertips.  iWeaveit saves your draft in a WIF file so you can organize your drafts, email them to someone and use them in other programs that use the WIF files.

After your draft is the way you like it,  you can go to the project planning area and input the size and EPI etc.  The program will tell you how many yards of yarn you need for both the warp and weft per color, give you the heddle count per shaft and has an area for your notes.

Print out the project plan or take your device to the loom and you can track threading and treadling as you work.  There are many more features to the App that you will enjoy.

As your progress in weaving,  you may need additional features beyond what iWeaveit can do.  Don't worry, Sally has you covered.  She also created programs for Mac and Windows that allow for advanced features like parallel threading, echo weave, double weave and block substitution.

I have only recently purchased the Weaveit Pro for Mac so I still have much to learn about it's power. The first thing I like about it is that it communicates with iWeaveit.  Everything I have done in iWeaveit is available to Weaveit.  There are differences in the programs, but it is easy to jump from one to another.

If I haven't convinced you yet... try it for yourself for free.

Here is a link to Weaveit web site where you can download a free demo:  Free Demo and see videos about how to use the program.

I am not an affiliate and receive nothing for suggesting this program.  I am simply a happy user who wants other weavers to learn and enjoy this awesome App and program.

  1. Good afternoon! I have wanted to learn how to weave for years and now that my kids are out of the house I can see it becoming a reality! I have watched your videos and have found them extremely helpful. I am wondering where you got the pattern for your warping mill and if you would be kind enough to share it? thank you very much! I am purchasing a used loom and will be attempting this soon! Thank you for all of your help. You have helped provide some clarity to a very foggy start!
